relevintage.com: the year in review
December 31, 2006
It’s the last day of the year and I’m going to attempt to try to fit into one day a few thoughts on the year in the form of commentary, lists, etc. For my first entry today, I would like to take a look back at the year here on this blog, relevintage.com.
It’s hard to believe, but back on April 1, I launched this blog. Before I launched, my brother-in-law, Henry, had been encouraging me to do so for some time. [Henry was blogging before blogging was en vogue] Honestly, I had no idea about the blogosphere until Henry turned me on to it.
I had been considering blogging for a while before April, but never felt like I had the green light. I knew that blogging was time intensive and to keep it up, I would need to blog regularly. I knew if I decided to take the plunge, I would need to make it a priority. Looking back, I think I did the best I could. There is not doubt that there is much room for improvement in regularity and content.
Let’s take a look back on the year…
Looking Back
[my top 10 favorite blog entries are in bold]
-I launched relevintage.com back in April with an introductory post about the overall vision for the blog.
I have been immersed in local church ministry for some time now. It is a constant challenge to find fresh ways to minister to a diverse and relativistic culture, both inside and outside the four walls of our churches. But with the call to ministry comes a passion to minister and redeem that very culture. And whether we work in or outside of the church, we have that call! That is the vision behind relevintage!
-Over the next few posts, I outlined the five tenets that more specifically detail the vision of the blog.
-the Bible as the source
-the local church as the agent
-conversation as the language
-roaring lambs as the negotiators
-the arts as a vehicle for cultural redemption
-I gave some on-the-ground reports from the Reform & Resurge conference in Seattle here, here, and here.
-I blogged live when Dr. Paul Meier came to Grace Church to talk about the falsities in the movie, The Da Vinci Code.
-I tackled The Da Vinci Code.
-I introduced a new feature called, ‘Holy’days.
For this blog, I would like to help us remember to specifically reflect on the importance of the Christian or liturgical season. As we encounter these events during our calendar year, I will be posting a variety of things to assist us in this end.
-I ruminated on why Taylor Hicks won American Idol ‘06.
-I took on the Pope.
-I reviewed Mark Driscoll’s book, Confessions of a Reformission Rev.
-I got some serious props from Shaun Groves on my review of Driscoll’s Confessions.
-The Darbswerdna’s rocked Riverport…
-We learned some worship-leading tips from Bono.
-I responded to a comment about Lectio Divina and wrote about reforming it.
-I talked about how the Ted Haggard scandal holds up the mirror in all of us.
-I showed you how I spent some of my Thanksgiving.
-I broke down admitted that I am a child of the 80’s.
-We observed Advent here, here, here, and here.
-I lambasted the 49th annual Grammys.
-I unveiled a new feature called, The Rearview Mirror.
-I confessed that my favorite Christmas album comes from a famous 80’s country duo.
-I talked about Joel Osteen and it ended up being my most commented post.
It’s been a fun year and I look forward to 2007. Happy blogging!
